The results reveal that his principles of Seva, Simran, humility, and compassion are timeless and critically relevant in addressing issues such as social inequality, materialism, and social fragmentation. A thematic exploration points out how these values can be integrated into modern practices to foster ethical leadership, promote social justice, and inspire harmonious living. The results further highlight the impact of adopting Baba Nidhan Singh Ji’s approach to community building and personal fulfillment, emphasizing the transformative potential of these values in creating a more compassionate and spiritually grounded society. The analysis, as described below, underscores the enduring significance of his teachings in guiding individuals and communities toward a better future.

1. The Principle of Seva: Addressing Social Inequality

One of the most pressing issues of our time is the growing economic and social inequality that plagues societies worldwide [6]. The gap between the rich and the poor continues to widen, leading to widespread poverty, lack of access to basic needs, and social unrest. Baba Nidhan Singh Ji’s life was a testament to the transformative power of Seva in combating such disparities.

Baba Nidhan Singh Ji devoted his entire life to serving those marginalized and forgotten by society [3-4]. His Seva was not confined to a particular group or community; it transcended all caste, creed, and religious barriers. In a world where social services are often stretched thin, and welfare systems can fail to meet the needs of the most vulnerable, the spirit of Seva that Baba Nidhan Singh Ji embodied is a powerful reminder of the role individuals and communities can play in filling these gaps.

Modern relevance lies in the fact that this principle of Seva can inspire today's generation to engage in community service and social work. We can address the inequalities that divide us by fostering a culture of selflessness and compassion. Whether through volunteering, donating to causes that help the less fortunate, or simply reaching out to help a neighbour in need, Baba Nidhan Singh Ji’s example shows that everyone has the power to make a difference.

2. Simran: Spirituality as an Anchor in a Materialistic World

In today’s fast-paced and materialistic world, many people experience a sense of emptiness and lack of fulfillment despite their material wealth. This is often because pursuing material success can lead to neglecting spiritual and emotional well-being [8]. Baba Nidhan Singh Ji’s emphasis on Simran, or the constant remembrance of God, offers a remedy for this spiritual void.

Simran, in its essence, is about cultivating a deep connection with the Divine and maintaining a spiritual focus amidst the world's distractions. Baba Nidhan Singh Ji demonstrated that a life grounded in spirituality should not be separate from worldly duties. Instead, spirituality can guide and enhance one’s actions, leading to a more balanced and meaningful life [11, 13].

For modern individuals, the practice of Simran can serve as an anchor, providing inner peace and resilience in the face of life’s challenges. In a time when stress, anxiety, and mental health issues are on the rise, the spiritual practices that Baba Nidhan Singh Ji advocated can help people reconnect with their inner selves, find purpose, and cultivate a sense of contentment that is not dependent on external circumstances.

Furthermore, integrating Simran into daily life encourages mindfulness and presence, allowing individuals to engage with the world more fully and compassionately. This mindfulness can transform how we interact with others, making us more empathetic and ultimately contributing to a more harmonious society.

3. Humility: Leadership Through Service

In an era where leadership is often equated with power and authority [10], Baba Nidhan Singh Ji’s life offers a contrasting model of leadership based on humility and service. He saw himself not as a leader in the conventional sense, but as a servant of humanity and God. His humility was evident in his actions, as he tirelessly worked to serve others without seeking recognition or reward.

This approach to leadership is incredibly relevant today, where there is a growing need for leaders who prioritize the well-being of their communities over personal gain. Baba Nidhan Singh Ji’s example teaches that true leadership is not about being in charge but about taking responsibility for the welfare of others [1, 4]. It’s about leading by example, showing compassion, and being willing to do the work that others may shy away from.

For young people aspiring to be leaders in their fields, whether in business, politics, or social activism, Baba Nidhan Singh Ji’s life offers invaluable lessons. It challenges the notion that success is measured by power and wealth, instead presenting a vision of leadership rooted in service, humility, and integrity. This type of leadership is particularly needed in addressing global challenges such as climate change, poverty, and social justice, where collaborative and compassionate leadership can lead to more sustainable and equitable solutions.

4. Community Building: Fostering Unity in a Fragmented World

The modern world is increasingly characterized by social fragmentation, with race, religion, and socio-economic status divisions. This fragmentation leads to isolation, distrust, and conflict, undermining the social cohesion necessary for a healthy society [7, 9]. Baba Nidhan Singh Ji’s life was dedicated to breaking down these barriers and building inclusive communities based on the Sikh principle of Sarbat da Bhala (the welfare of all) [1, 13].

Baba Nidhan Singh Ji’s work was not limited to serving individuals; he sought to create communities where everyone felt valued and included. He believed in the power of collective action and encouraged people from all walks of life to come together in the spirit of Seva. This approach is particularly relevant today as we face rebuilding social bonds in increasingly polarized societies.

By following Baba Nidhan Singh Ji’s example, we can work towards creating more inclusive and supportive communities. This involves addressing the immediate needs of those around us and fostering a sense of belonging and mutual respect. It means recognizing our shared humanity and working collaboratively to address our common challenges. Whether through community service, dialogue, or acts of kindness, the spirit of unity that Baba Nidhan Singh Ji championed can help heal the divisions that separate us.

5. The Need for Ethical Role Models: Inspiring the Next Generation

In a time when ethical standards in leadership, business, and even daily life are often compromised, there is a dire need for role models who exemplify integrity, compassion, and selflessness [5, 7]. Baba Nidhan Singh Ji’s life provides a powerful example of how these values can be lived out in everyday actions, inspiring the next generation to follow a path of righteousness [11, 13].

Young people today are often disillusioned by the hypocrisy and corruption they see around them. They seek authentic leaders who can guide them with honesty and integrity. Baba Nidhan Singh Ji’s legacy offers precisely this kind of guidance. His life teaches that true success is not measured by wealth or status but by the positive impact one has on others and the world [1, 4].

By studying Baba Nidhan Singh Ji's life and teachings, young people can find a model of ethical living that challenges them to rise above the pressures of materialism and self-interest. His example encourages them to strive for a life of purpose, where personal fulfillment is found not in what they acquire but in what they give. This focus on ethical living and selfless service is crucial for building a just, compassionate, sustainable future.

Conclusion

Baba Nidhan Singh Ji’s life and values are not just relics of the past; they are profoundly relevant to the challenges and opportunities of the modern world. His commitment to Seva, Simran, humility, compassion, and community building offers a roadmap for navigating the complexities of today’s society. As we look to inspire a better future, Baba Nidhan Singh Ji's principles can guide us in creating a more just, compassionate, and spiritually grounded world. By embodying these values in our lives, we can honour his legacy and contribute to a brighter future for all.
